Current Status:

James is a bit of a wunderkind: James' father died when he was eight months old and his mother, Mary, Queen of Scots (sister of Elizabeth I, the "Virgin Queen"), abdicated the throne when James was a one-year-old. His mother abandoned him, and James was raised by Scottish nobility, earning him a sense of entitlement and superiority.

Now, we're not shy of his arrogance and superiority. After all, he's a divine ruler! As a boy, James studied the Greek, French, and Latin languages and studied all the classical and religious texts that he could get his hands on. Because his aunt, Elizabeth I, was childless, he made a "bid" for the throne of England in 1585. In 1589 James was married to Anne, the daughter of Frederick II of Denmark, who, in 1594, gave birth to their first son. This really gives us hope for the "stock" of King James: a multinational marriage is always good! As ruler of Scotland, James appeared to settle the religious wars between the Protestants and the Catholics. In 1584, he also reached an agreement that made him the head of the Protestant Church in Scotland.

Predictive Trajectory:

Queen Elizabeth died in 1603, and James assumed the throne. He proclaimed that England needed an "old and experienced king", but we're not sure if "old school conservatism" is the best method in such a dynamic time. James has a tendency to "lecture" his Parliament, but this hasn't been a problem yet.

We don't foresee a problem with James: he has the pedigree, the education, and the drive to be king! Additionally, James is surrounded with a good community of political advisors
