Napoléon's Paris

Assessing Napoléon's Legacy with
"What He Left Us"

Picture
Welcome to my city! As you know by now, I set out to create “…the most beautiful capital in the universe”. And I think you'll see that I have! But you must remember, it's not about me. Well, it kinda is. But it's about the people of Paris. Lord knows they've suffered enough under the Ancien Régime, under the Committee, and then lastly, under the horrid leadership of the Directory. But, as I've said before, Je suis la révolution ("I am the revolution"), and I think you'll agree that what you see is indeed worthy of such praise.

Since you came to my city (and you did so in pairs, like your teacher said! Great job! Thanks!), choose which "legacy" of mine you'd like to explore: 1) art, or 2) architecture. They're both great! So take your pick, and remember why you're here (...and why you're doing this activity): To know "me", just open your eyes. So, after you "look" at what I left you, tell your partner that THIS is my legacy. (Essential Question: Seen in both art and architecture, what is the legacy of Napoleon?)
