LUST
"Hope never more
of Heaven to win the sight"

This destination that we approached had very narrow space, with extremely loud sounds of torment. We are greeted by the monster Minos who "waits awful there and snarls - the Case Examining of all who enter".

Minos acts, as I mentioned, as "the Case Examiner", assigning people to their proper "Hell circle":
  • "Each ill-starred spirit must begin..." with Minos who "...sees to what circle it belongs in Hell."
Minos then takes his tail and encircles the spirit as many times as his "circle" demands. For example, if the sinner will be damned to the Third Circle, Minos will "squeeze the soul" three time.

This circle of hell is reserved for "the sinners of the carnal kind." They act "as starlings in the winter-time" who are "driven by wind, Float[ing] up and down and veer[ing] from side to side; Nor for their comfort any hope they spy of rest, or even of suffering mollified."
